Southwest Map - Region 10

Located in southwest Georgia, Region 10 is comprised of 14 counties and is home to Albany State University, which has launched special programs in blockchain technologies, including data analytics and machine learning. Both Colquitt and Grady counties are active in the Archway Partnership, a University of Georgia program that brings together area leaders to prioritize local needs and identify projects that benefit the local communities and businesses.

The region is a sportsman’s paradise, home to world-class hunting.  Major employers include Sanderson Farms, MillerCoors, Proctor & Gamble, Flowers Foods, and National Beef Packaging company.

Small Business ROCK STAR: Sweet Grass Dairy Making a sweet connection in Georgia

A landmark in downtown Thomasville, Sweet Grass Dairy operates as both a cheese shop and full-service restaurant. Like many entrepreneurs, Jeremy and Jessica Little knew that they could not succeed by working alone, and enlisted the help of groups within the community; including the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce and the Development Authority of Thomas County, which helped in connecting the Littles to resources at the local and state level to provide assistance. They also received help from two of Georgia's Centers of Innovation – Manufacturing and Agribusiness and were selected to participate in the Georgia Mentor Protégé Connection, which connected the Little's to resources and expertise, including FoodPic, the food lab of the University of Georgia.

The Value of the Right Connections: Thrush Aircraft

Thrush Aircraft is a global leader in the aviation sector, producing aircraft for agricultural spray operations. Through the help of the Georgia Center of Innovation for Aerospace, they were able to create their newest model, the 510G and added over 40 jobs to their manufacturing facility in Albany, Georgia. This video is the perfect example of the support the Center of Innovation for Aerospace provides Georgia-based businesses.

Ms. Rutha Mae Harris & the Albany Civil Rights Institute

The Freedom Singers emerged from Albany, Georgia, in 1962 with a goal of educating communities through song about civil rights. By 1963 they were performing at the March on Washington and the Newport Folk Festival. Today, you can still hear these powerful songs at the Albany Civil Rights Institute at 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month.

Swamp Gravy Productions at Cotton Hall

This small community theater tells the folk-life stories of locals throughout Miller County, Georgia. This once abandoned, 100 + year cotton mill has been transformed into a grassroots cultural center in the area, and has brought a greater appreciation for the arts in the community, as well as enhanced economic development for more than 25 years.
