Atlanta, June 6, 2013 — Gov. Nathan Deal and AT&T Georgia President Sylvia Russell today announced that AT&T will hire workers for more than for 1,000 positions throughout Georgia, including nearly 600 new jobs. AT&T is hiring full- and part-time employees in network construction and maintenance, customer support, retail and other positions. The company plans to begin filling these positions immediately. "Georgia businesses and consumers are using more communications services such as wireless and broadband," said Deal. "These jobs will provide opportunities for our citizens in one of the fastest-growing parts of the Georgia economy and will help build critical communications infrastructure and provide customer support." Many of the new positions are the result of AT&T's recently announced Project Velocity IP, a three-year multibillion dollar investment plan to expand and enhance its national wireless and wired IP broadband networks. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to increase the density of its wireless network by deploying more than 10,000 macro sites, more than 1,000 distributed antenna systems and more than 40,000 small cells. It also plans to expand 4G LTE to cover more than 300 million people by the end of 2014 and deploy fiber to an additional 1 million business locations by the end of 2015. In addition, it will expand and enhance the AT&T wired IP broadband network to cover approximately 75 percent of customer locations in its wired service area by the end of 2015. 'As AT&T continues to invest in our network and expand our customer base in Georgia, we're committed to providing excellent customer service,' said Sylvia Russell, president of AT&T Georgia. 'We applaud Governor Deal and the members of the Georgia General Assembly who are working to create a business-friendly environment where industries want to invest and create job opportunities for Georgians." Full- and part-time positions include competitive wages and benefits. AT&T currently employs more than 21,000 employees in Georgia. The company constantly hires new talent as its job mix and product line changes with its industry, and last year filled thousands of positions. Jennifer Nelson, director of the Georgia Department of Economic Development's Existing Industry and Regional Representative team, assisted the company with its hiring plans. About AT&T AT&T Inc.
