Governor Perdue, AGL Resources Celebrate Company’s Expansion in Riverdale

STATE OF GEORGIA   OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR   ATLANTA, July 13, 2010 – Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue joined with executives from AGL Resources and a host of dignitaries today to celebrate the expansion of the energy utility’s customer care center in Riverdale in Clayton County.  Atlanta-based AGL Resources created 74 new jobs with the opening of this facility.

 “Georgia’s utilities are an essential part of our state’s infrastructure, and play an integral role in attracting new jobs and investment to Georgia,” said Governor Perdue.  “This AGL Resources expansion is an asset to Georgia’s economic development efforts, so I am excited to celebrate the company’s growth in our state.”

Through the company’s partnership with Georgia Work Ready, twelve employees have already been hired who have completed their Work Ready assessment and were certified at the Gold, Silver or Bronze level.

The expanded AGL Resources customer care center will provide customer service to the utility’s customers in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland.  AGL Resources, the parent company of Atlanta Gas Light, provides environmentally-friendly natural gas service to more than 2.3 million customers in six states.

Atlanta Gas Light, the oldest corporation in Georgia, is the company’s local distribution company in Georgia, and provides natural gas services to more than 1.5 million customers.
