Small Business Defined

Georgia defines a small business as one which is independently owned and operated and must have either fewer than 300 employees or less than $30 million in gross receipts per year. Also, the Governor's Office of Workforce Development (GOWD) was created to improve the job training and marketability of Georgia's workforce and drive future economic growth for the state. These programs are built to assist small, medium and large companies throughout Georgia. Visit Georgia Work Ready ▶

Small Business Resource Directory

Small businesses comprise 99 percent of Georgia companies. No small part of the state’s economic lifeblood, small businesses reflect Georgia’s entrepreneurial spirit and fuel job growth, as well as personal pride.

GA ranks #2 for states experiencing the largest increases in entrepreneurial activity rates over the past decade; Atlanta/Marietta/Sandy Springs tied at # 2 for entrepreneurial activity by a metro area. Learn how we are Supporting Georgia’s Businesses (flier).
