Web Industries Expands in Gwinnett County, Georgia

GA_USA_vertical_smallATLANTA, February 12, 2010 — The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced today Web Industries, a global leader in the manufacturing and development of flexible materials, will expand its operations in Suwanee, Georgia in Gwinnett County.  Through this expansion, the Marlborough, Massachusetts-based company will create 25 high-wage engineering and technician jobs and invest six million dollars.  The Suwanee facility will service new and expanding large-scale composite aircraft programs for commercial and military use, directly supporting the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

'By choosing to expand in Georgia, Web Industries will help create strategic opportunities for the state to enhance its standing as a leader in aviation and aerospace,' said Ken Stewart, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.  'As a global leader in manufacturing components for the aerospace industry, Web Industries will join the ranks of other companies in this sector that successfully do business in Georgia.'

The six million dollar capital investment associated with this project will be used for equipment and infrastructure, including a world-class composite materials research and development center.  Web Industries will occupy a 250,000-square-foot facility in Suwanee, making this the company's largest facility in North America, providing space for additional growth.

'Our continued expansion in the Atlanta area is in direct support of the growing needs for advanced composites used in large-scale aerospace programs,' said John Jaskot, Web Industries general manager for its Atlanta operations. 'Gwinnett and the State of Georgia is a strategic location for advanced manufacturers like Web Industries with room for growth and the qualified workforce we need to fill these new positions.'

Web Industries is a leader in the production of prepreg composite fibers, which are critical materials used in manufacturing the next generation of commercial aircraft.  The company is a global leader in this unique manufacturing service, which is only available in three other places worldwide.  The company's Gwinnett County operation will process the composite material used to manufacture slit tape for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which took its first flight in December 2009.

'Gwinnett County maintains a strong focus on the retention and recruitment of advanced manufacturing facilities,' said Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charles Bannister. 'Web Industries is a strong component to this industry's existing foundation in Gwinnett and we are pleased to see them remain and expand in our community.'

GDEcD partnered with Gwinnett Chamber Economic Development and Partnership Gwinnett for this project.  Lindsay Martin, GDEcD project manager, assisted the company with this expansion.
