Specialty Wax Manufacturer Opens Albany Facility

ATLANTA, September 29, 2011 — The Georgia Department of Economic Development announced today that Virginia-based Dominion Chemical Company will open a wax products manufacturing facility in Albany, Georgia in Dougherty County.  The company will invest $1.1 million, and create 10 jobs over two years.
'We work very hard to be the main resource for Georgia's manufacturing community, which ranges from automotive manufacturers to food processors,' said Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.  'It is rewarding to see our efforts pay off when we're able to attract manufacturers like Dominion Chemical to Georgia, sending a clear message that we're committed to being the most competitive place for business.'

Dominion Chemical manufactures a variety of wax emulsions and wax products for end users, with products including candles, box coatings, paper converting, adhesives, rubber and other specialty applications.  The company's Albany facility will be known as Dominion of Georgia, and will allow the company to duplicate its wax blending, wax packaging, and wax emulsions services in the Southeast.

'This is an exciting time for Dominion and its customers,' said Maclin Ferrell, vice president of Dominion Chemical.  'This acquisition will allow us to offer our customers dual sourcing facilities as well as better logistics for our customers in the Southeast.'

A Georgia Certified Work Ready Community, Dougherty County is home to a robust group of existing industries that benefit from the community's highly-skilled workforce.  Dominion of Georgia will occupy a 20,000-square-foot facility in Albany, with an additional 8,500 square feet available for warehouse space.

'Albany-Dougherty County, the hub of Southwest Georgia, is thrilled to count Dominion of Georgia among its industrial partners,' said Ted Clem, CEcD, president of the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission. 'Our community's strong manufacturing base will provide Dominion with a hard-working and skilled work force, and its distribution network will offer Dominion smooth and rapid delivery of its products throughout the Southeast. We appreciate Dominion of Georgia's commitment to Albany-Dougherty County, and know it will find success within the community's progressive business climate.'

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) partnered with the Albany-Dougherty County Economic Development Commission to secure this business opportunity for Georgia.  GDEcD senior project manager Chuck Hunsaker managed the project for the state.
