ScanTech lands major contract with the United Arab Emirates

ATLANTA, July 9, 2008 – Atlanta-based ScanTech announced today that it plans to create up to 25 jobs and invest $1 million after landing a major contract with the government of the United Arab Emirates to install its proprietary baggage-screening systems, using award-winning advanced X-ray technology.

ScanTech, headed by Georgia Tech grad Dolan Falconer, designs and manufactures innovative systems that scan baggage and cargo for hazardous materials such as explosives, drugs and radioactive substances. The company recently formed a partnership with the government of the United Arab Emirates to install its Sentinel IIa advanced baggage inspection systems in the Abu Dhabi International airport.

ScanTech's equipment allows airport security personnel to detect various types of hazardous materials using advanced X-ray technology. This application can help prevent terrorism, smuggling and other airborne crimes with its non-intrusive detection system. The technology won first place in the 'Defend America Challenge,' hosted by the Chesapeake Innovation Center. Several lawmakers, including Georgia Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson and Rep. John Lewis of Atlanta, have expressed support of the technology.

The company is currently scouting locations in the metro Atlanta area for its expansion.

The company was recently recognized by the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) for the commercial application of its baggage screening technology. ScanTech was named to TAG's Top 10 Most Innovative Technology Companies in Georgia for 2008. The company also won the 'People's Choice' for being 'Most Likely to Create Jobs' by attendees at the recent Georgia Technology Summit.

ScanTech, founded in 2001, was formed in Georgia Tech's Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) in midtown Atlanta.
