ATLANTA, October 7, 2015—Members of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) today joined Prime Minister Mark Rutte of The Netherlands for a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the grand-opening of Fokker Technologies' (Fokker) new facility in Clayton County. Fokker is a global leader in the aerospace and defense industry, and this endeavor will create 100 jobs over the next five years, generating a $3 million investment within the first year.

'The aerospace industry has stamped an enormous economic footprint on our state, and we have seen Georgia rise to meet its growing demands, becoming a leader in this industry,' said GDEcD Commissioner Chris Carr. 'Esteemed companies like Fokker have helped pave the way for this success. We are excited about their new endeavor in Georgia, and we look forward to this continued partnership.'

Fokker chose to establish their controlling operation at a 23,000-square-foot facility in Forest Park. Upon completion, this facility will serve as the construction site of composites for the aerospace industry. The newly created jobs will fall under the areas of aerospace and defense manufacturing.

"This represents the next and exciting phase in the further development of Fokker's global presence, on which we can continue to build in the years to come,' said Hans Buethker, CEO of Fokker Technologies. 'We are very proud to be selected for this innovative program and to extend our long term partnership with Raytheon. Design and development activities have initially taken place in the Netherlands, manufacturing takes place close to our customer by an excellent team in a state-of-the-art custom designed facility.'

Fokker is a specialist supplier to 75 commercial and defense platforms. They design, develop and manufacture highly engineered aircraft systems for their customers and offer through-life aircraft fleet support services.

'We are pleased that Fokker has selected metro Atlanta for its entry into the U.S. market, and we are thrilled that Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte is here to mark this important occasion,' said Hala Moddelmog, president and CEO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber. 'This region is a stronghold for Dutch companies and for the aerospace industry, and we look forward to working with the company as it fills critical advanced manufacturing jobs.'

Senior Project Manager at GDEcD Nico Wijnberg supported the company on behalf of the state and worked with Electric Cities of Georgia.
