Go Build Georgia team to tour North Georgia high schools

Georgia state logo ATLANTA – April 22, 2014– The Georgia Workforce Development's Go Build Georgia team will visit 11 North Georgia high schools this week as part of an initiative to educate the next generation about careers in the skilled trades. Tomorrow, April 23 kicks off a three-day tour to connect Georgia high school students and school counselors with the resources that Go Build Georgia (GBG) provides. 'The Go Build Georgia program, launched by Governor Deal in 2012, seeks to close our state's skilled labor gap by dispelling misconceptions about the skilled trades and building a pipeline of workers,' said Ben Hames, Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Workforce Division. 'With the help of Go Build Georgia High School teams, students statewide are learning about promising career opportunities that otherwise get little attention.' In order to reach the next generation of our workforce early on, GBG uses the High School Teams program to create an environment in schools where educators, counselors and local business leaders connect students with the training opportunities, information and networking options they need to begin their future in the skilled trades. There are now more than 250 GBG High School Teams across the state. For more information, visit the Go Build Georgia website.
