Caraustar Industrial and Consumer Products Group Opens New Augusta Facility

Georgia state logoRichmond County, June 24, 2010-The Development Authority of Richmond County announced today that Caraustar Industrial and Consumer Products Group, a subsidiary of Caraustar Industries, Inc. ('Caraustar'), will open a new facility in Augusta and create up to 15 new jobs.  The announcement was jointly made by Chairman Terry Elam of the Development Authority of Richmond County and David Benjock, Area General Manager of Caraustar. Caraustar is a leading manufacturer of paper tubes and cores, edge protectors and related protective packaging products and is the second largest producer of tubes and cores in North America. Caraustar will occupy the Hayes Building on Hayes Street at Laney Walker Boulevard in Augusta. The new facility will result in 12 to 15 new jobs. In making the announcement, Development Authority Chairman Terry Elam said, 'Caraustar is recognized as a leader in the paperboard industry nationwide, and we are pleased to have them in Augusta.  The Development Authority of Richmond County worked closely with David Benjock of Caraustar, Diane House of the Augusta Career Center of the Georgia Department of Labor, and Adela Kelley of the Georgia Department of Economic Development to make this location a reality.' Walter Sprouse, the Executive Director of the Development Authority of Richmond County, said, 'Caraustar will help to expand Augusta's diversified manufacturing and distribution base.  They will be working closely with our Augusta-based paper industry, providing top quality products for that important segment of our economy.' David Benjock of Caraustar said, 'The Augusta facility is strategically located to provide services for our new and increasing customer base in the Central Savannah River Area.  Our location on Hayes Street gives us convenient access to Interstate 520." Ken Stewart, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development said, 'Manufacturing and distribution companies like Caraustar employ 10 percent of Georgia's workforce, and are a critical asset to the state's economy.  We are fortunate Georgia has deep resources to help these companies grow, such as a ready workforce and world-class logistics network.'
