Boise to build new distribution center in Barrow County

Georgia state logoATLANTA, Feb. 22, 2007 - Boise Building Materials Distribution (BBMD), a business unit of Boise Cascade, LLC, is building a new building materials distribution center in Barrow County. The company will add approximately 50 jobs and invest $12 million in the community. 'Georgia's geographic location and transportation infrastructure makes it an ideal location for companies seeking to quickly and efficiently move goods,' said Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) Commissioner Ken Stewart. 'Boise has found that Georgia is a great partner that helps it achieve its goals.' The new facility, located in the city of Auburn, will serve as a storage and distribution center for BBMD's building supply materials to the company's Southeastern customers, including Atlanta. The new distribution center will include a 155,000-square-foot warehouse, 12,000 square feet of office space and 18 acres of paved inventory storage on 38 acres. The site is located near major truck transportation corridors and rail access. 'We have a strong, loyal and growing customer base in the Southeast,' said Stan Bell, senior vice president of BBMD. 'The new, larger distribution center will give our customers increased access to products unique to the market, while our associates will continue offering customers our customized, local market services.' J.W. Rooker & Associates will develop the site and construction of the new facility is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2007. The new facility will replace the company's existing distribution center in Tucker. 'Growing companies like BBMD are the type of business we rely on to keep our community growing as well,' said Thomas Jennings, Barrow County Chamber of Commerce. Idaho-based Boise Cascade manufacturers and distributes lumber, plywood, particleboard and engineered products such as wood I-joints and laminated lumber.
