Dan Holtz

Colonel (Ret) Daniel D. “Dan” Holtz, United States Air Force, has been Georgia’s Assistant Commissioner of Veterans Service for Administration, Health and Memorials, since May 1, 2009.

In this capacity he serves as the Georgia Department of Veterans Service’s chief fiscal officer and supervises budget development, support operations, the state veterans’ home in Augusta and through the Health and Memorials Division, the state veterans’ home in Milledgeville, the state veterans’ cemeteries in Glennville and Milledgeville and the Department’s construction and renovation program. Previously, he was the Director of the Health and Memorials Division.

He served a 25-year career with the U.S. Air Force Medical Service Corps. During his military service, he served tours in Viet Nam and various stateside bases. He served as the commander of a medical treatment facility in Europe and he completed his military service at the Air Force Surgeon General’s Office in Washington and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs at the Pentagon, retiring in 1991. He is the recipient of the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 4 OLCs), Air Force Commendation Medal and various other military awards and decorations.

Before joining the Department in 1999, he served as the CFO and CEO at two community hospitals in the District of Columbia and in Georgia.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (1976) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management from Butler University (1966).

He served a one year Management Fellowship through the Air Force Institute of Technology at the Arthur D. Little Company (1986). He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Mr. Holtz currently serves as the Secretary of the Georgia Military Officers Association of America (GMOAA), the statewide affiliate of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and is a member and Chaplain of the Atlanta Chapter of the MOAA. He serves as the Executive Vice President of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association, the American Legion and a Life Member of the Veterans Foreign Wars.

He and his wife, Linda, currently reside in Douglasville, Georgia, where he is a member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder and a choir member. He is a member of the West Atlanta Douglas Choral Society, Inc. They have two children, a daughter who lives in Durham, NC and a son who lives in Burke, Virginia.
