Georgia Centers Of Innovation

Innovative companies can accelerate growth with Georgia’s public and private assets, its broad menu of business resources and its focus on strengthening strategic industries through the Centers of Innovation program.

Created by Former Governor Sonny Perdue in 2003, the Georgia Centers of Innovation program provides unique, technology-oriented support to existing businesses and entrepreneurs in the areas of aerospace, agribusiness, energy, life sciences, logistics and advanced manufacturing.

Each center creates an environment of growth through direct access to university and technical college applied research, commercialization resources, technology connections, matching grant funds, potential investor networks and government organizations. This public/private collaboration provides unparalleled opportunities for creating innovative, tangible technology solutions to industry-led challenges.

As of July 2011, the Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) and the Georgia Cancer Coalition (GCC) came under the umbrella of the department. The GRA will enlarge the scope of its economic development role of leveraging the state’s university resources for the business community in order to grow jobs and investment in the state, and will work in coordination with GDEcD to integrate the Georgia Centers of Innovation (COI) program with the programs of the GRA in order to maximize the potential for high-tech companies to thrive in the state. The Georgia Cancer Coalition (GCC) also become a part of the Georgia Research Alliance in order to leverage its mission, strengths and connections with university cancer programs.

Supported by the OneGeorgia Authority and receiving board guidance by the University System of GeorgiaTechnical College System of Georgia, the Intellectual Capital Partnership Program and others, the state’s Centers of Innovation are a catalyst for growth and prosperity for businesses throughout Georgia.
