Providence Canyon
Travel to Providence Canyon State Park, near Columbus, and witness the awe-inspiring views of Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon.” Discover the many colors of Earth’s history as you view the vibrant geological layers of the canyon. It’s one of the State’s “Seven Wonders,” and truly a hidden gem worth discovery.
Spanning 1,000-acres, Providence Canyon State Park includes 16 canyons, some as deep as 150 ft., providing miles of exploration adventure. Visit the park’s interpretive center and learn about the canyon’s history. You’ll find that this geological gem was not chiseled out by a river but instead by erosion due to farming practices of the 1800s.
Hike along the park trails and admire the rare Plumleaf Azeleas and other wildflowers that fill the area. Stroll along the canyon rims and marvel at the orange, purple, red and pink hues of the rock and soil – it’s a kaleidoscope of inspiring color.
Camping, hiking, backpacking, picnicking and photography are the main activities you can enjoy at Providence Canyon. There are picnic shelters, a group shelter, a Pioneer Campground and six backcountry campsites. Cottages are also available at nearby Florence Marina State Park on gorgeous Lake Walker F. George.
Special events are held throughout the year including Astronomy Night and Fall Wildflower Day – both providing educational fun for the entire family. Come join in the activities and experience the beauty of this Georgia gem.
