John Marlor, English master builder, built as a wedding present for the second Mrs. Marlor, the house has a colossal portico with Doric columns and cantilevered balcony. A Federal style circular stair in the front hall joins the two floors.

Milledgeville was the capital of Georgia during the Civil War and the museum located in the former Capitol building shows the heritage and culture of the time. The Old Capitol Building is considered to be the first example of Gothic architecture in a public building in the United States.

Built as the Executive Mansion, it was home to the governors of Georgia from 1839 to 1868. It was occupied by General Sherman during his March to the Sea. The Mansion is one of the most perfect examples of Greek Revival architecture in Georgia and also received the prestigious Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation award. It now serves a historic house museum.

The Stetson-Sanford House is available for tours on the Milledgeville Trolley Tour. The house was b The house was built in 1825 in the Milledgeville Federal style by local architect, John Marlor. The house features a Palladian double portico and orginal pilasters. Fanlights have a spread eagle and dogwood blossoms ornamenting the lead dividers. A cantilevered oval spiral stair dominates the central hall and hand grained woodwork remains in the parlor.

The Tunnel Hill Heritage Center is the gateway to the historic Western and Atlantic Railroad Tunnel, one of the oldest railroad tunnels in the South. Its construction allowed east-west trade beginning in the 1850's. During the Civil War, the tunnel played a part in the Great Locomotive Train Chase as the "General" and "Texas" raced through. Just west of the tunnel is the Clisby Austin House, originally a private home and resort later used as General Sherman's headquarters while planning the Atlanta Campaign.
