Who We Are
According to the U.S. Census, over 30 percent of Georgia’s population was born outside of the state. From the mountains to the coast, Georgians are as diverse as the changing topography of the state.
One thing that solidifies Georgians is our vision. We’re dedicated to making Georgia a healthy, safe and educated environment to fuel the growth and prosperity of our state. In Georgia, we want a rich quality of life for all residents.
We’re also a state of bold ideas. From music to medicine, Georgians are here to make a difference. The University of Georgia was the first state chartered university in America, and our dedication to education and innovation didn’t stop there. The formation of the HOPE scholarship program has ensured another generation of innovative Georgians by awarding $1.6 billion in scholarships and assisting more than 616,000 students since 1993.
Georgia is also a state of tradition and legacy. From Colonial times to the present, Georgians have made an impact on history. As home of the Civil Rights Movement, Habitat for Humanity and the 1996 Olympic Games, Georgia has continually shown the spirit and the passion that transform dreams into reality.
What it means to be a Georgian is continually evolving. As our cities continue to grow, we embrace this growth with a respect for the past. With a perfect balance of old and new, history and adventure, Georgians possess an innovative spirit and the drive to achieve.
