Logistics & Transportation

Georgia’s seamless transportation and logistics network of Air Transportation, Ground Transportation and Sea Ports is unparalleled for its efficiency, innovation and geographical “corner store” location (view our latest industry overview brochure-PDF). Located at the crossroads of north-south and east-west travel in North America, Georgia is a natural launching point from which people and products are quickly transported via air, ground and ocean among the Americas, Europe and Asia.

"Georgia has it all," says Andy Smith, president and COO of Kenco Logistic Services in Inbound Logistics magazine. To learn why, read "Georgia: Fueling Logistics Competitiveness." Inbound Logistics (PDF)

Existing Industry Presence

Georgia is home to nearly 11,000 providers of logistics services, from core transportation and facilities to third party logistics and software providers. Companies like Delta Airlines, UPS, SAIA and Manhattan Associates have headquarters here along with major players in logistics such as Home Depot, Coca-Cola and Gulfstream. Additionally, every sector of logistics is supported by active trade associations in Georgia and Atlanta is a popular location for many major logistics industry events.

World Class Infrastructure and Talent

From the world’s largest international airport to the nation’s 4th-largest and fastest- growing container port, and extensive intermodal ground connectivity in-between, Georgia’s infrastructure assets are unmatched. In addition to our transportation advantages, four of the top 10 warehouse providers in North America are headquartered here and 90 percent of the top 25 global third party logistics providers (3PL’s) have operations in Georgia.

Another critical “infrastructure” component of any company is its people. Georgia is home to 51 four-year colleges and universities and 35 technical colleges offering over 100 different logistics related courses, certificates and degree programs. With the nation’s top-rated workforce training program, Quick Start, the state partners with companies to provide the specialized training the world leaders in logistics demand.

Global Business Connections

Georgia understands companies must engage in the growing global marketplace to ensure success. From here, companies can easily connect with customers around the world through non-stop flights to 89 international cities in 55 countries. Nearly 21,000 companies throughout all 50 states rely on the deepwater ports in Savannah and Brunswick and export to 153 out of 195 countries across the globe. Georgia’s nine general-purpose Foreign Trade Zones across the state provide seamless transport, reducing delays, and in some cases, eliminating tariffs on imported items. Georgia also aids in supporting global trade, investment and connectivity with 10 international offices located throughout the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

For the second consecutive year Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been named ‘Air Cargo Airport of the Year' (2009-2010).
