Nonprofits

Financial resources and a spirit of community are a must for growing philanthropic organizations. Nowhere are they as strong as in Georgia’s rapidly expanding business community, which provides the perfect support system for nonprofits of all sizes. We place extreme importance on the role that not-for-profits play in society. You can see this doctrine at work in Georgia with the 20 foundations that contribute in excess of $1 million annually to ensure the health of local nonprofits.

An environment of ethnic and economic diversity affords nonprofits the landscape they need to affect positive change. Georgia provides a progressive environment, ready volunteers and corporate partners. Atlanta has long been home to important institutions including The Arthritis Foundation®, The American Cancer Society®, CARE® and nearly half of the state’s other nonprofit organizations. All of Georgia has proven to be fertile ground for compassion and willingness to take part in the not-for-profit world. For example, Habitat for Humanity® International, based in Americus, has used its roots in south Georgia to become a guiding presence throughout the state and the world.

Partnership between Georgia philanthropic organizations and its business community has helped spur growth in both giving and services. By setting up foundations to support smaller nonprofits, Georgians have made it possible for approximately $650 million a year to fund ongoing programs designed to feed, house and educate people across the state and around the world.
