SEUS – Canadian Provinces Alliance
The SEUS –
Canadian Provinces Alliance was established in November 2007 to promote continued trade and investment between member states of the Southeastern United States (Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) and member provinces from Canada (Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Québec). The Alliance will meet once per year, alternating between host sites in the two countries, and will attract approximately 500 participants from a wide array of business sectors, chambers of commerce, and government, including state governors, provincial premiers, and ambassadors.
SEUS – Canada will hold its first annual meeting in Savannah, Georgia, from Sunday, June 15, through Tuesday, June 17, 2008. Governor Perdue has named Mr. Robert S. Jepson, Jr., Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Office of Jepson Associates Inc., as Conference Chairman. The co-chair, appointed by Premier Jean Charest of Québec, is Mr. Yves Laflamme, Senior Vice President, Wood Products Division, AbitibiBowater Inc. The annual conference will emphasize industry topics with links between the Southeast United States and Canada, including Aerospace, Advance Manufacturing, Energy, Transportation and Logistics, and Tourism.
The goals of the Alliance are to present opportunities for businesses to enhance commercial exchanges, promote two-way investment, and encourage technological and scientific exchanges between and among the States and Provinces. Georgia’s specific goal is to promote the export of Georgia goods to Canada, while encouraging Canadian investment to Georgia, adding to the many other Canadian-owned company facilities in Georgia who now represent an investment of $2.58 billion.
Governor Perdue will lead Georgia’s delegation with Chairman Bob Jepson and other private and public Georgia leaders.
