Venture Capital
Without funding, many of the best ideas never come to fruition. Through Georgia’s many innovative initiatives, you can gain access to the venture capital you need to grow your idea into a prosperous business.
The Biosciences Seed Fund was founded in 1999 to accelerate the formation and growth of bioscience companies in Georgia. Since its inception, it has seeded the growth of 11 companies, investing about $3.6 million of state funds to attract a total of $140 million in private equity – a nearly 30-to-1 leverage.
For some technology and biotech companies it can take years to get their products to market and reach profitability. The Georgia Facilities Fund is here to assist your technology and biotech company with capital expenditures, expediting an important process that can sometimes make or break an enterprise.
In its pilot implementation, Inhibitex, an Alpharetta-based biopharmaceutical company, received $2.5 million to finance facility improvements. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) assisted the Development Authority of Fulton County in procuring this funding with the cooperation of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) and the Georgia Research Alliance (GRA). Based on the success of this initial award, the fund will eventually be expanded to benefit other venture-backed biotech companies supported by private capital construction funds.
The $10 million Strategic Industries Loan Fund, established by the OneGeorgia Authority, is targeted to industry clusters reliant on Georgia’s continuing advancement in technology and innovation. It offers low-interest loans to life sciences, aerospace, agribusiness, energy, transactional processing, logistics, security and transportation companies in order for them to thrive. This helps stimulate growth in the regional economy and generates jobs across the state.
Good ideas flourish in Georgia. Through our innovative funding programs, you can gain a foothold on building a successful business – and bring that concept to life.
