Manufacturing
For manufacturers, access to the right resources can greatly accelerate success. The right location, workforce and business climate can be the difference that puts a company ahead of its competition. Georgia delivers the right mix of tools and assets for manufacturing companies to thrive.
The fundamental factors for manufacturing success are constant: produce the right products, in the right quantities, at the right time, with good quality and at a price the customer is willing to pay – and deliver those products to the customers quickly and efficiently. Georgia’s integrated logistics network can do that.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s leading air cargo center, handles more than 900,000 tons of cargo each year; state-of-the-art
deepwater ports in Savannah and Brunswick that are the fifth largest in the country and serve as south Atlantic’s premier auto-processing facility; and more than 130,000 miles of public roads and interstates a 4,700-mile rail network put most of the United States within a two-hour flight or two-day drive.
Once the distribution channels are in place, the next step is to find the right people. Companies that depend on well-trained, ready employees to ensure a competitive advantage can look to Georgia to meet their human capital needs. The Georgia Department of Economic Development and the
Department of Technical and Adult Education created the Governor’s
Center of Innovation in Manufacturing Excellence (CIME) at Lanier Technical College in Gainesville. CIME assists manufacturers with applied research and a highly skilled workforce trained to respond to the rapid changes taking place in the manufacturing sector and to fuel its productivity
The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education also offers a Certified Manufacturing Specialist Program to maintain a steady stream of qualified workers to manufacturing companies throughout the state. No cost recruiting, screening and training services are also available through the state’s internationally recognized
Quick Start program.
In today’s competitive marketplace, operating in a pro-business climate can also play a major role in success. Georgia’s progressive business environment sets the stage for long-term prosperity. The state has some of the lowest worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance tax rates in the country, provides compensation insurance credits and discounts for businesses that are certified drug-free or provide certified health care programs, and boosts workforce productivity through right-to-work and employment-at-will laws. Additionally, companies that have been headquartered in Georgia for at least three years and are creating new jobs with above average wages can take advantage of a new $500 existing industry per job tax credit bonus.
