Global Trade
In today’s economy, success knows no borders. Business has become global, and the marketplace is broader and more diverse than ever. Companies in Georgia enjoy unique advantages that translate into greater opportunity and prosperity.
Georgia is a springboard to the world. Firms doing business in the state find they can quickly and efficiently ship their products to nearly any country on the globe. Foreign companies have long recognized Georgia’s progressive, inclusive business climate as the ideal environment for growth and expansion. Today, Georgia’s business community includes more than 1,600 internationally owned facilities from 39 countries. Foreign-based firms employ more than 125,000 Georgians and generate an estimated $15.5 billion in capital investment.
Companies seeking a global presence find that Georgia’s integrated logistics network can accelerate success. To efficiently move goods, the state has built a seamless transportation infrastructure including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s leading air cargo center, which handles more than 900,000 tons of cargo each year; state-of-the-art deepwater ports in Savannah and Brunswick that are the fifth largest in the country; more than 130,000 miles of public roads and interstates; and a 4,700-mile rail network. Additionally, three Foreign Trade Zones – in Atlanta, Brunswick and Savannah – allow companies to delay, reduce and, in some cases, eliminate U.S. customs duties on imported items.
The Georgia Department of Economic Development’s (GDEcD) global trade division is equipped to help companies succeed in the global marketplace. Companies in need of marketing, financing or legal assistance can rely on dedicated project managers throughout the state of Georgia and in the department’s international offices for expert advice and information. GDEcD also provides connections to the state’s more than 50 consulates, trade offices and bi-national chambers of commerce and the Atlanta office of the United States Export Assistance Center (USEAC).
