To that end, the aerospace business in Georgia thrives on innovative ideas, state of the art technology and the collaboration of explorative minds. Competing and succeeding in such a progressive field is dependent on access to the right resources necessary to transform dreams into reality.
One such reality became fact in 2006 when the Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation announced it was adding 1,100 new jobs to its Savannah facility. The $300 million expansion plan over seven years will mean a 25% increase to its current employee total of 4,300.
Many aerospace companies speed their economic prosperity by capitalizing on the tools and assets Georgia has to offer. More than 83,000 employees working in 530 establishments put Georgia in the nation’s top 10 states for aerospace and aviation employment according to the latest report issued in November 2002 by the Commission on the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry.
In addition, the report placed Atlanta among the top five metropolitan areas based on industry employment, wages, payroll and establishments. Many of the aerospace and technology companies surveyed thrive around the Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins which serves as the hub of Georgia’s aerospace industry. Aerospace companies located throughout the state can speed research and development and increase their bottom lines by tapping into Georgia’s flourishing aerospace industry and the experienced workforce that calls Georgia home.
A leader in aerospace intellectual capital, Georgia offers companies unique opportunities to accelerate their research and development and establish more effective best practices through participation in the Aerospace Innovation Center which was founded in 2003 in Warner Robins. To develop cutting edge technologies and stay ahead of the competition, center members can work with some of the world’s best and brightest minds through the innovation center’s partnerships with the University System of Georgia, private institutions and companies and the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center. New research initiatives and start-up enterprises are supported through the center’s incubator program, and more established companies are prospering through innovative programs created to meet their evolving needs in the transforming aerospace industry.
On the educational side for everyone of all ages, two top-flight attractions ito visit in Georgia are the Museum of Aviation and the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame which is housed at the museum site in Warner Robins.
