Pre-K
Start young, finish strong. Georgia understands the importance of educating its youth – we’re committed to it.
One example is the “Bright from the Start” Pre-K program. Started in 1993, it offers a free, high-quality curriculum to nearly 64,000 4-year-old children per year. The program is infused with approximately $128 million annually from state lottery proceeds, making Georgia’s program one of the most successful in the nation.
The goal of this program is to not only provide each child with the best learning experiences prior to entering kindergarten, but to do so in an environment that encourages them to have fun while they learn.
Georgia State University conducted an evaluation that found children who attended Pre-K had higher academic and social ratings by their teachers and a higher level of attendance versus children who didn’t participate in Pre-K programs. Additional studies have concluded that children who enter kindergarten ready to learn are better situated to succeed in school.
Georgia’s Pre-K program is just another example of the state’s commitment to further enhance the future of its children and its community.
