Heidi Green

Heidi Green is the deputy commissioner for global commerce at the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD), the state’s lead governmental organization for promoting, marketing and supporting economic growth.

 

Ms. Green oversees the division that helps existing industries grow and expand; develops and recruits new businesses to Georgia; and increases Georgia’s trade around the world. Her responsibilities also include the Governor’s Entrepreneur and Small Business Office and the state’s Innovation and Technology Office, as well as 12 offices around the state and 11 offices around the world. Ms. Green also chairs the Georgia Entrepreneur and Small Business Network, established by executive order of Governor Sonny Perdue.

 

Ms. Green joined the department in June 2007. For nearly five years previous she served as Governor Sonny Perdue’s director of intergovernmental affairs and as his senior advisor in economic development. She has managed relationships with federal departments and elected officials, state agencies and local governments, as well as serving as a senior advisor to the Governor on issues such as economic development, transportation, water management and PeachCare. In addition, she represented the Governor’s office in regional and national organizations, including the Southern Governors’ Association, Republican Governors’ Association, and National Governors’ Association.

 

Green began her career in intergovernmental affairs in Washington D.C. in the office of Congressman Bill Thomas (R-CA). She later served as the Projects Director for Senator Paul Coverdell (R-GA), working in both his Atlanta and Washington, D.C. offices. She has experience working in the U.S. Department of Commerce and in fundraising for non-profit organizations.

 

Green, a native of Lakeport, Calif., holds a Bachelor of Arts in international affairs from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon and an MBA from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She resides in Marietta with husband Reuben Green, an assistant district attorney for Cobb County.
