Free Atlanta Sci-fi Film Festival Begins October 7

Coming to midtown Atlanta October 7 - 9, IMAX presents the first annual Atlanta Sci-fi Film Festival featuring sci-fi film shorts, art and live music. Additional sponsors include the Multicultural Sci-fi Organization (MCSFO), Georgia Tech’s School of Literature, Media and Communication, HBO, and The CGBros. There is no cost to attend but registration is required.

Events will begin Friday, October 7 at 6 p.m. with the opening reception and VIP screening of HBO’s new series “Westworld” at SCADShow, followed by a special guest panel. Only the first 100 registrants may attend.

Saturday’s events will be held at the Georgia Institute of Technology Student Center Theater, including a special 8 p.m. screening of “Sunspring” starring Thomas Middleditch– the first sci-fi film short created by an Artificial Intelligence–followed by a Q&A with director Oscar Sharp, and A.I. researcher Ross Goodwin.

At 2 p.m. five films competing in the CGI SF Film Short Competition will be shown, followed by Featured SF Film Shorts at 2:30. Two groups of films competing in the audience-judged Live Action SF Film Short Competition show at 3:30 and 5:00 p.m. Luna Strings will perform a 20-minute set at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday’s finale moves to Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 16 IMAX, with awards presentations (including the IMAX Young Film Makers Award) and a screening of the new Terrence Malick IMAX documentary “Voyage of Time,” narrated by Brad Pitt. A Q & A period will follow.
