New Georgia-Produced 'Edgar Allan Poe's Mystery Theatre' to Premiere Statewide on GPB

The new original drama Edgar Allan Poe's Mystery Theatre, produced in Georgia and featuring an all-Georgia cast, will have its statewide television premiere on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 11PM. This engrossing drama about America’s first great mystery writer poses the question “Was Poe a scoundrel, a genius -- or a madman?” The action is set in 1840’s Richmond, Virginia, where Poe re-opens his deceased mother’s theatre. Desperate for success, he recruits friends, family, and even rivals, to appear on stage depicting his most bizarre tales.

Edgar Allan Poe's Mystery Theatre stars Paul McClain, the Theatre Program Director at Northview High School in Johns Creek. Keith Brooks, who has appeared on episodes of AMC’s The Walking Dead, NBC’s Constantine, and Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva, portrays Rufus W. Griswold, Poe's chief literary rival. Carrie Anne Hunt, who also appeared on Drop Dead Diva as well as Fox's Sleepy Hollow, plays Poe’s wife, Virginia. Geoff McKnight, a veteran of NBC/PBS's I'll Fly Away as well as NBC/CBS’s In the Heat of the Night, rounds out the talented cast as John Allan, Poe's estranged foster-father.

The drama is written and produced by Atlanta-based Jose Alejandro Acosta, whose multi-faceted film career spans over 25 years, and was filmed in locations throughout the state including The Brick Store Pub, Decatur; The Goat Farm, Atlanta; Berry College, Rome; Myrtle Hill Cemetery, Rome; The Spell House, Hazlehurst; Jeff Davis County Fairgrounds, Hazlehurst; and The Carl House, Auburn.
