Cartersville Makes it Big on the Silver Screen

The film branch of the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Camera-Ready Cartersville, is currently touting three film and television projects debuting in March and May. Each of these projects was filmed in Bartow County from summer 2012 to summer 2013, featuring popular sites such as Red Top Mountain, the historic 1903 Bartow County Courthouse and River Road.

SundanceTV will bring its original series The Red Road to viewers Thursdays at 9 pm. Starring Martin Henderson, Jason Momoa, Tom Sizemore and Julianna Nicholson, the series was filmed in and around Cartersville in August 2013, employing over 130 crew members.

Opening in theatres March 14, Need for Speed from Dreamworks Pictures features Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots, Scott Mercudi and Michael Keaton as well as west Bartow County. A crew of 175 filmed the picture’s high-speed driving scenes in June 2013.

And on May 9, Devil’s Knot, a film based on a true story told by Mara Leveritt’s 2002 book, opens having filmed in downtown Cartersville. Local residents joined the film’s cast – Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Stephen Moyer and Bruce Greenwood – as extras in courtroom scenes.

Camera-Ready Cartersville is just one of many Camera Ready liaisons across the state working to strengthen the film industry in Georgia – the third ranking U.S. state for film production. These agencies assist productions with discovering the right locations to shoot, such as the Cartersville Depot and 1903 Bartow County Courthouse, pictured below.
