Macon Film Festival Announces Special Screenings to Headline Ninth Annual Event

Macon, GA – The Macon Film Festival has announced the Special Screenings that will headline the ninth annual festival, held Feb. 27 – March 2. All Special Screenings will be held at the Cox Capitol Theatre, located at 382 Second St.

The Opening Night special screening on Thursday, Feb. 27, is the documentary “Muscle Shoals,” which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Director Greg Camalier will attend as a special guest and he will participate in Q&A with the audience following the 7:30 p.m. screening.

Friday night, Feb. 28, brings a faith-based, family-friendly pic, “Brother’s Keeper,” which was awarded Best Feature Drama at the 2012 International Family Film Festival. Director T.J. Amato will participate in Q&A following the 7:30 p.m. screening.

Saturday night, March 1, actor Matthew Modine will attend the screening of “Birdy,” which won the Grand Prize of the Jury at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival. Modine, who plays the title role in the film, will participate in Q&A with the audience following the 7:30 p.m. screening. He will also be a featured guest at the Art Matters Film Symposium, an official festival event, on Sunday, March 2, at 5:30 p.m. at The 567 Center for Renewal, located at 533 Cherry St.

The closing night Special Screening on Sunday, March 2, brings the current Academy Award-nominated film, “Nebraska,” to the big screen for a 6:30 p.m. screening. Then audience members are invited to attend the after-party where they can cheer on the film’s six nominations at the Academy Awards live broadcast will be projected on the big screen. All-Access passes are required in order to attend after-parties.

The four-day Macon Film Festival was named one of the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the world by Moviemaker Magazine. The festival includes screenings independent films that you can’t see in any other theatres, including short and long format narratives (like you see at regular movie theatres) and documentaries. Screenings are held at three venues located within three blocks in downtown Macon: Cox Capitol Theatre, the Douglass Theatre and The 567 Center. Filmmaking workshops, networking events and legendary after-parties combine to make this an event that draws audiences and artists from around the globe.
